MYRTLE BEACH - Coastal Carolina's men's and women's track and field teams finished strong on the final day of competition at the Coach O Coastal Carolina Invitational on Saturday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, with multiple Chanticleers finishing in the top 10 in their respective competitions.
Several Chanticleers had first-place finishes, including the team of Teka Simpson, Karissa Lunn, Anacia Hines and Kelila Naules, who reigned supreme in the women's 4x100-meter relay with a time of 46.13. Hines also won the women's 100-meter hurdles seeded event with a run of 14.28 (-0.2 wind), and sophomore Kevondre' Hunt finished first in the men's 110-meter hurdles seeded with an impressive time of 14.33 (1.0 wind).
Coastal had two other top 10 finishers in the men's 110-meter hurdles seeded event, as freshman Dee Jennings took second with a time of 14.71 (1.0 wind) and sophomore Jerome Coaxum Jr. came in tenth with a run of 15.31 (0.5 wind). Coaxum also placed tenth in the men's 200-meter dash seeded event with a time of 22.01 (-1.9).
In other action, senior Latesha Simpson (57.91) finished fourth and junior Imani Boatwright (58.53) placed ninth in the women's 400-meter dash seeded event. Additionally, sophomore Kahlim Denmark took sixth in the men's 400-meter dash seeded with a time of 49.52. Coastal had a pair of top 10 finishers in the men's discus, with freshman Devontaye Edwards (47.22m, 154'11") taking fourth place and senior Ryan Minor (43.66m, 143'03") finishing ninth among a stacked group of competitors.
The Chanticleers also performed well in the men's pole vault seeded, with senior Brinson Corn (4.55m, 14'11") finishing third and freshman Alex Botello (4.40m, 14'05.25") placing seventh. In the men's shot put, sophomore Zach Bolton notched a ninth-place finish with a mark of 14.82m (48'07.50"). Elsewhere, Junior Nick Seabright had a nice showing in the men's high jump seeded, finishing eighth with a jump of 1.78m (5'10").
Senior Stephanie Pollock finished ninth in the women's 100-meter dash seeded, with a stellar time of 12.55 (-0.5). Coastal also had a strong showing in the men's 100-meter dash seeded, as sophomore Therius Styles took the top spot with a 10.74 (-0.9) and freshman Ryan McCain finished fifth with a 10.93 (-0.9).
In the women's 200-meter dash seeded, Naules placed sixth (25.26, -0.1) and freshman TeeAsiah Vance finished tenth with a time of 25.51 (-1.6). Coastal sophomore Tre Stanley came in eighth in the men's portion of the 200-meter dash seeded with a time of 21.96 (-1.1). Junior Cari Pallini took eighth in the women's discus with a throw of 40.25m (132'1"). In the men's 800-meter seeded event, junior Charles Bascom finished third with a time of 1:56.69.
The Chanticleers will return to Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium next weekend as they host the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational XX. The competition kicks off on Thursday, March 17 at 11 a.m., and concludes on Saturday, March 19.
