Hansen & Schaeffner Named Big South Golfers of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Coastal Carolina teammates Malene Krolboll Hansen and Lena Schaeffner along with Winthrop's Ashley Sloup have been selected as the Big South Women's Golfers of the Week, for events played March 10-16, it was announced Thursday by the league office.
Schaeffner and Hansen tied for runner-up honors at the 3M Augusta Invitational (par 72, 6,246 yards), leading Coastal Carolina to a second-place finish in the 16-team field. Both carded a 4-under 54-hole score of 212, as Schaeffner shot rounds of 73-69-70, while Hansen turned in scores of 74-69-69. Both shot 3-under 69s during the second round as the duo combined for 12 birdies (Schaeffner 7 and Hansen 5). The second round effort catapulted Coastal from 10th on the team leaderboard to fourth after 36 complete. Hansen again shot a 69 during the third round, rolling in five birdies. Schaeffner recorded a 70 her final time around the course, counting four birdies.
A native of Taastrup, Denmark, Hansen holds a 73.80 scoring average through 20 rounds of play this season, while Rettigheim, Germany, native Schaeffner owns a 74.33 stroke average through 18 rounds.
The Big South weekly honor is Hansen's second this season and eighth of her career, as she earned two Golfer of the Week and four Freshman of the Week nods last season. Schaeffner is now a nine-time Golf of the Week honoree, picking up three honors in 2013-14, five last year and now one this year.
Sloup captured co-medalist honors at the Lady EagleCat Invitational (par 73, 6,035 yards) with a 3-over 149 (76-73) at the LPGA's Hills Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. Her final round even-par 73 moved her up from a tie for sixth-place to the top spot for the second time this season. Sloup's performance also helped Winthrop win the team title.
The Chans return to action March 21-23 at the annual Briar's Creek Invitational, hosted by College of Charleston at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, S.C.
