CONWAY - Coastal Carolina's late-innings come-back fell short Friday night as Cincinnati claimed a 10-7 decision over the 18th-ranked Chanticleers in game two of the Chanticleer Classic at Springs Brooks Stadium.

Day two of the event on Saturday features three games as Ball State and Cincinnati square off twice, 11 am and 7 pm, with the Chanticleers hosting #13 Ole Miss in the sandwich game at 3 pm.

Coastal grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when G.K. Young and Zach Remillard belted back-to-back home runs over the right field fence into the visitor's bullpen

The Bearcats answered with a four runs in the top of the second. Cincinnati loaded the bases as Ryan Noda walked, Woody Wallace singled and Devin Wenzel drew a one-out walk. Two batters later, Kyle Mottice delivered a two-run single before Manny Rodriguez hit with a two-run double.

Cincinnati padded its lead (6-2) with two runs in the fourth. B.J. Thompson and Mottice walked and, with two outs, A.J. Bumpass singled to center to plate Thompson. Connor McVey followed with an RBI single to right field.

With two out and bases loaded in the top of the sixth, Noda hit a three-run double to left field to give the Bearcats a 9-2 lead.

Coastal trimmed its deficit to two, 9-7, with five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Tyler Chadwick started the home half with a single and the Chants loaded the bases when Seth Lancaster walked and Cameron Pearcey was hit by a pitch. Kevin Woodall Jr. was also hit by a pitch to force home Chadwick. Pinch hitter Kieton Rivers then welcomed new pitcher Cameron Ross to the game with a grand slam -- the first career round-tripper for the Rivers.

Cincinnati got one of those runs back in the top of the eighth to make the score 10-7. With bases loaded, Wallace hit a fly ball to center field which was deep enough to score Rodriguez but Coastal threw out Bumpass at third base for the final out and limit the damage.

CCU starter Jason Bilous (0-1) took the loss. He struck out five in 3.1 innings but walked four and allowed four hits to surrender five runs. Andrew Beckwith added six strikeouts in 2.2 innings.

Andrew Zellner (1-1) earned the win. He scattered four hits and struck out five in six innings. He allowed three runs. Doug Lowe II picked up the save. He pitched two scoreless innings. While Coastal brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, Lowe rallied to record a pop out, a strikeout and a line out to give the Bearcats their first win of the season.
