Carr Drives Chants' Offense in 15-10 Win Over Vermont

LUTHERVILLE, Md. - Maggie Carr scored two goals and added an assist, Sara Nolan tallied four goals and Sophie Crowther notched a hat trick in Coastal Carolina's 15-10 victory over Vermont at Maryvale Prep School Monday afternoon.

Haley Alexander (two goals and one assist), Madeline Bromley (one goal and two assists) and Courtney Genovese (two goals) also contributed to Coastal's offense, which pulled away with 10 goals in the second half after heading into the midway mark deadlocked at 5-all.

With the win, Coastal improved to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Vermont slipped to 6-9, including 2-3 in conference action.

The game, which marked the first ever meeting between the Chants and the Catamounts, opened with a balanced attack from both sides.

In the first half, Vermont's Brynne Yarranton scored three goals, and Jenna Jones and Jenny Caoili added a goal apiece for the Catamounts. Sophie Crowther, Alexander, Carr and Charlotte O'Leary netted goals for Coastal in the opening stanza.

Coastal pulled away after action resumed, as Genovese, Carr, Nolan, Crowther and Bromley found the back of the net in the final 30 minutes of play.

Defensively, the Chants were led by Maddy Ciardi, who scooped four ground balls and caused three turnovers.

In goal, Jenna Stover tallied six saves, while Maddy Kuras had a game-high 14 saves for Vermont.

The Chants had the advantage with 19 ground balls to 17, and Coastal also outshot the Catamounts, 35-22.

Coastal's next game is at home on April 30 at 1 p.m. against No. 5 Liberty. The No. 4-seeded Chants take on the Flames in the first round of the Big South Lacrosse Championship.
