Chanticleers Defeat Radford 5-4; Wins Conference Series

RADFORD, VA. - The Coastal Carolina softball team defeated Radford Sunday afternoon, 5-4, to take game three of the conference series.

With the win Coastal improves to 20-18 overall and goes to 5-4 in the conference. The Highlanders are now 20-14, 4-5.

Coastal pounded out 11 hits in the win with Bri Chiusano (2-for-5), Taty Forbes (2-for-5) and Adriana Toro (2-for-4) each collecting two. Kelsey Dominik went 1-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two RBI.

The Chanticleers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Forbes reached on a Radford fielding error and Noad followed with a double to score Forbes. Then, Dominik delivered a two-run home run to center field for a 3-0 advantage. Mackenzie Conrad and Tooley each singled to left field before Toro capped off the inning with an RBI single to score Conrad.

Radford responded in the bottom of the third as Becky Mantel had an RBI single to make the score 4-1 in CCU's favor.

In the top of the fourth, Angela Buccilli had a leadoff single while Chiusano and Forbes each followed with bunt singles to load the bases. Noad walked to force home Buccilli to give CCU a 5-1 lead.

The Highlanders' made a comeback bid in the sixth as Summer Robinson hit a three-run homer to cut their deficit to one, 5-4.

Dominik (13-9) pitched a complete game to earn the win. She recorded six strikeouts while allowing seven hits and four runs (three earned) and a walk.

Coastal will return to action Wednesday with a home doubleheader versus College of Charleston. First pitch set for 3 p.m.
