PONTE VERDE BEACH, Fla. - Led by senior Lena Schaeffner's 2-over 144, Coastal Carolina women's golf is tied for sixth after two rounds of play at the Web.com Intercollegiate contested at the par-72, 5,987-yard Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Verde Beach, Fla.
The Chanticleers finished the first 36 holes of the 54-hole event 9-over par (288-297=585), but are just 10 strokes back of leader Middle Tennessee State (575). Toledo leads the 16-team field with a 1-under par score of 575 (288-287). Chattanooga and Big South rival Campbell are tied for third with 581 scores. No. 26 Missouri (582) is fifth, followed by the Chanticleers and North Florida.
Coastal's Schaeffner fired a 2-under 70 with the help of four birdies and 12 pars her first time around the course. She then shot a 2-over 74 during her second round and is tied for eighth in the 90-competitor field with a 36-hole total of 144 (E). The senior closed the day with six total birdies and 25 pars.
Bailey Cocca continued her stellar senior campaign with round of 74 and 72 for a 2-over 146 tally. She is tied for 16th overall after moving 15 slots up the individual leaderboard with her second round 72. Cocca also rolled in six birdies putts, while also marking down 22 pars.
Tied for 25th overall is sophomore Malene Krolboll Hansen. She carded rounds of 71 and 77 for a 4-over 148 total. She turned in 13-par, three-birdie first round and 9-par, three-birdie second round.
Marie Lunackova is tied for 30th overall, posting rounds of 73 and 76 for a 5-over, 149 total. Barbora Bakova carded rounds of 76 and 75 to tally a 7-over 151 and is tied for 47th. Lunackova ranked fourth in the field with 29 pars, and counted a single birdie during her first round. Bakova notched a birdie during each round.
The Chants tee off on the final round of the tournament Tuesday morning.
