2016 NCAA Divsion I Baseball Championship Bracket | Chants NCAA Tournament Central

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina University baseball program will be the #2 seed and face #3 seed Saint Mary's (Calif.) on Friday (June 3) at 2 pm in the NCAA Raleigh Regional (played at Dial Park), it was announced Monday on a national ESPNU telecast. The Chanticleers found out their postseason fate as the team hosted a watch party at Handley's Pub and Grub.

NC State, the top seed in the four-team, double-elimination Raleigh Regional, will host fourth-seed Navy at 7 pm on Friday. All games will be broadcast on ESPN3.

The Chanticleers and Gaels have never met on baseball diamond. Coastal has faced NC State 27 times, posting an 11-16 record against the Wolfpack, while the Chants and Midshipmen have never played. Coastal most recently faced NC State back on Feb. 20 during the Chanticleers' Caravelle Resort Tournament with Wolfpack taking a 13-10 win in a slugfest that featured a combined nine home runs.

Coastal Carolina will compete in the program's 14th Regional since 2001 and 15th overall, posting an 18-25 record in Regional play. Coastal has been a #1 or #2 seed on seven previous occasions, including 2003 (#2 at Lincoln, Neb.); 2005 (#1 at Tempe, Ariz.); 2007 (#1 at Myrtle Beach); 2008 (#1 at Conway); 2009 (#2 at Chapel Hill, N.C.); 2010 (#1 at Myrtle Beach); and 2015 (#2 at College Station). The Chants were the #3 seed in each of their last three Regionals (2011 at Clemson, 2012 at Columbia and 2013 at Blacksburg, Va.).

The Chanticleers have an RPI of 12 and a non-conference strength of schedule ranking of seven. Coastal Carolina faced 10 teams to receive a Regional bid, including four host institutions. The Chants posted a 9-8 record among those teams to make a Regional.
