CONWAY - Coastal Carolina University held its spring 2016 commencement exercises Friday and Saturday. Among the class of newly minted Coastal Carolina alumni were 56 Chanticleer student-athletes, including 12 of whom graduated with honors.
Leading the way among student-athlete graduates with magna cum laude honors were Brinson Corn (men's track & field), Brianna Cristiano (women's track & field), Arnar Geirsson (men's soccer), Gisli Helgason (men's soccer), Colin Marz (men's soccer) and Camille Christie (women's soccer). Graduating with cum laude honors were Marissa Hinchman (women's golf), Lena Schaeffner (women's golf), Josh Pisarri (men's golf), Maddy Ciardi (lacrosse), Kasey Griese (lacrosse) and Charlotte O'Leary (lacrosse).
Football produced the largest number of graduates among CCU's 19 athletic teams with 11. Among the 11 football grads were Devin Brown, Clark Krimmer and Voghens Larrieux, each of whom will return to the field this fall with eligibility remaining.
Nine Chanticleers from the lacrosse program earned their degrees. The nine Chants are the first four-year graduates of the lacrosse program, which became Coastal's 18th sport program in 2012.
Other Chants of note to earn their degree are men's basketball's four-year seniors Badou Diagne, Tristian Curtis and Michel Enanga. The group led Coastal to 80-plus wins, four Big South titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances in their careers. In addition, women's golf's Schaeffner concluded her career ranked second on the CCU career scoring average list, while men's soccer student-athletes Geirsson, Helgason, Marz and Tobenna Uzo were instrumental in the programs rise to the upper echelon of collegiate soccer.
The group of 2016 Chanticleer graduates won more than a combined 25 Big South Conference division, regular season or tournament championships
