DALLAS, Texas - Rylie Cox, an incoming freshman that will join the Coastal Carolina women's tennis team for the 2016-17 season, showcased promising talent at the 2016 ITA Summer Circuit University of Texas at Dallas tournament.
The 2016 ITA Summer Circuit consists of 51 tournaments spread across 24 states, and runs for six weekends throughout June and July. Players that advance out of the qualifying tournaments head to Bloomington, Ind., to take part in the ITA Summer Nationals, held Aug. 13-16 at Indiana University.
The ITA Summer Circuit provides college tennis players, along with junior players and alumni, the opportunity to compete in organized events during the summer months.
Cox competed in both the 64-player women's open singles draw, and the 32-team women's open doubles draw at the UT Dallas tournament.
Cox was eliminated from the main singles draw in the first round after falling to rising junior Tai Martin of Charlotte, but went on to win the consolation singles draw with six straight victories.
She fared equally well in the doubles draw, advancing to the finals match alongside partner Tiffany Hollebeck. The pair recorded notable wins along the way, defeating Ansley Bearman (Abilene Christian)/Whitney Williams (Abilene Christian) in the second round; Elena Muller (Tulane)/Camila Wesbrooks (Arizona) in the quarterfinals; and Caroline Brinson (Georgia)/Madison Tedford (TCU) in the semifinals.
Cox and Hollebeck came up short in the doubles final match to Ivana Corley (junior)/Melissa Pick (Wisconsin commit).
