Track & Field Programs Garner Academic Recognition

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina University men's and women's track & field programs were named All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). In addition, student-athletes Aynslee van Graan, Kahlim Denmark, Ryan McCain and Tre Stanley were honored as All-Academic Individuals by the association.
The Chanticleer men were one of 122 teams across NCAA Division I to be recognized, while the women were one of 220 squads. Coastal's men posted a combined 3.06 GPA for the 2015-16 academic year and the women a 3.16 GPA.
Denmark, McCain and Stanley were three of 570 male student-athletes from 161 institutions named All-Academic Individuals. Van Graan and 909 other females from 191 institutions claimed the honor. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
• For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
• For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Denmark, McCain and Stanley each qualified for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round in the 4x100 meter relay. The trio posted GPAs of 3.85, 3.42 and 3.27, respectively during 2015-16. Van Graan, who finished 2015-16 with a 3.95 GPA, completed in the 1500 meter event at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round. Furthermore all four student-athletes were also named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll.
