
Four Chants Earn WGCA All-American Scholar Honors

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) named Coastal Carolina women's golfers Barbora Bakova, Marie Lunackova, Malene Krolboll Hansen and Lena Schaeffner to the 2015-16 Division I All-American Scholar team, as announced on Tuesday, July 5.
The award is the fourth for Schaeffner and second for Hansen, while Bakova and Lunackova earned the plaudit for the first time.
"I am exceptionally proud of these student-athletes for their latest accomplishments," said Coastal Carolina women's golf head coach Katie Quinney. "To be named an All-American Scholar by the WGCA while competing year round shows that these four individuals have the drive to excel both academically and athletically."
In all, 828 student-athletes across Division I, II and III schools were honored for their work in the classroom and on the course. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA to be considered for the award is 3.5.
In addition to the required 3.50 minimum GPA, student-athletes must meet a number of requirements, including being of high moral character and in good standing at the college making the nomination, and the student-athlete must have played in 50 percent of the team's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated.
Schaeffner, a spring 2016 graduate of Coastal Carolina, concluded her collegiate career with a 3.80 GPA as a recreation and sport management major. Hansen and Bakova, both marketing major, currently own GPAs of 3.90 and 3.91, respectively. Lunackova, an exercise and sport science major, finished her freshman year with a 3.95 GPA.
As a team, Coastal Carolina women's golf carries 3.697 GPA, which ranks highest amongst all Chanticleer teams and easily surpasses the 3.083 GPA of the average degree-seeking female student at the University.
