New Orleans, LA - Coastal Carolina womens soccer goalkeeper Becca Austin has been named the Sun Belt Conferences' Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Austin has earned the first-ever Sun Belt Player of the Week honor for the Coastal Carolina womens soccer program. The senior also received her first initial Player of the Week honor after adding to the teams' two shutouts giving the Chanticleers a 1-0-1 record in its opening weekend of regular season play.
The senior kept the score to a 0-0 tie versus the Furman Paladins on Friday evening. Furman continued its high pressure in the first overtime testing Austin and forcing the senior to make two crucial game-ending saves. Austin kept the Chants in the game making nine saves -- all of which were on frame -- over the 110 minutes of play.
Continuing her strong weekend, Austin assisted in the Chanticleers 4-0 shutout victory versus Wofford. The senior played a full 75 minutes to secure the win before she was sub out. Austin only had to make one save the entire 75 minutes on the field.
The senior from Dallastown, Pa., has faced 25 shot attempts this season with 10 total saves giving her a 1.000 save percentage.
Coastal will return to action this week traveling to Winthrop Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. before heading to No. 3 Duke Sunday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.
