Coastal Carolina vs. Jacksonville State
Head coach Joe Moglia
"There was a big improvement from week one to week two. We are all incredibly proud of what Hop (De'Angelo Henderson) did (in setting the NCAA Division I record for most consecutive games with a touchdown). I thought we did an incredible job blocking, the receivers, the backs and the line. From a defensive perspective, we improved because we gave up two big plays the week before and this time we gave up just one big play. Clearly we will need to address that. But I thought we did a good job reading our keys, did a good job tackling in space and did a good job gang tackling. I thought we dominated the game on the special teams end.
"Jacksonville State is one of the top four FCS programs in the country and they have been over the past couple of years. One of the reasons to come (to Coastal) is to get the opportunity to play a game like this. Their quarterback (Eli Jenkins) was an All-American last year and the top-rated quarterback in the FCS this season. This will be a great test for our defense. Our offense is preparing hard because they have some difference alignments we normally do not play against. I think we have the advantage versus most teams on special teams. It's clear Jacksonville State works just as hard and they are very sound on special teams. This is one of those games that can come down to a big play on special teams."
De'Angelo Henderson
"I could not have done anything I have done without my teammates. I get the reward, but it is everyone else doing the dirty work like the offensive line blocking, receivers blocking and the quarterbacks put us in the right play. I am just truly blessed. After the game, my family and I were just in the parking lot laughing and couldn't believe it was true. The record is bigger than me. The record has everything to do with the program, the players who built the program, the kids coming into the program and the Coastal community.
When I signed at Coastal, I looked up all the records and wanted to get every one of them. It not really something I think about, but it is something that has always been in the back of my mind. The numbers are nice, but our goal this year is to be the best team in school history. We have a lot to prove. We are nowhere close to where we want to be, but we are definitely striving towards it.. We know we can't go to the postseason, so every game is a national championship game for us.
"We know the magnitude of this game. They played for a national championship last season and that is something we never got a chance to do. They have been nationally ranked right along with us over the past couple of year. The competition should be very high. If this doesn't bring out the best of everybody on the team then I don't know what will."
