
Coastal Carolina Falls to Arkansas State

Jonesboro, Ark. - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team fell to Arkansas State, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in Jonesboro.
The loss dropped the Chanticleers' record to 9-5-1 overall and 4-3-1 in conference, while the Red Wolves improved to 7-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in Sun Belt action.
Coastal got on the board first when a Daniella Famili pass to the middle of the box found Kayla Christian for a goal to the upper far corner of the net for the 1-nil lead in the 30th minute.
Arkansas State would knot the score at 1-1 before intermission. Sarah Sodoma put a shot from the left side of the box inside the far right post for the goal. Amy Andrea was credited with the assist.
ASU's Olivia Smith would get the eventual game-winning goal in the 79th minute on the pass from Tayler Carter. Bailey Reed scored the final tally for the 3-1 final score. The final goal came on a corner kick with Sodoma getting the assist in the final minute of the match.
The Chants outshot the Red Wolves 17-12 overall but trailed in corner kicks 9-to-3. Christian led CCU with six shots, Elisabeth Rockhill added four, and Mackenzie Gibbs and Famili put two each. The trio of Sunny Sigurvinsdottir, Kendall Parks and Ambria Shutts each got off one shot a piece. Coastal Carolina will return to action for their final two home games of the season as they take on Sun Belt defending champion South Alabama, Sunday (Oct. 15) with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 17 against in-state rival South Carolina State with a 6 p.m. scheduled kickoff.
