CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday afternoon as the Chanticleers fell in a 4-3 match to Richmond at the Stevens Tennis Center.
Richmond (5-2) swept the doubles point and claimed the first three singles points to clinch the match, while Coastal (2-1) took the remaining three singles points in three sets.
Jose Oretega won the Chants' first point on the sixth singles court, downing James Aronson 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. Sebastian Schneider topped Caleb Troy on the third court, and Zak Talic finished the match with a 7-6, 6-7, 10-7 victory at No. 4.
Jacob Dunbar (No. 1), Alexandre Felisa (No. 2) and John Karlawish were the Richmond singles winners.
"We're going to learn and grow as a team from this one today," said Chanticleer head coach Chris Powers. "I thought we had a good week at practice, but Richmond was just a little better at key times today."
Coastal will play its first away match of the season on Tuesday when it heads to South Carolina State for a 2 p.m. tilt.
