Women's Tennis Tops UNCW, 4-3

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team won its third straight match Sunday afternoon as the Chanticleers defeated visiting UNC Wilmington at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
The win improves Coastal's season record to 3-1.
The Chants fell behind 2-0 in the match, but rallied back to win four of the remaining five singles points.
"It was a hard fought match until the end," said Chanticleer head coach Catherine Hewitt. "Its always tough to get a win against UNCW. The team faced adversity and didn't back down. We are very proud of what they showed today."
UNCW took the doubles point with wins on the first and second courts after Marie Babayan and Alex Tiefel won the no. 3 match for the Chants.
The Seahawks took a two-point match advantage after winning the first singles point at No. 2.
Sara Bondar cut the deficit in half with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5, and Babayan evened the match after downing Annika Sillanpaa at No. 4.
UNCW's final point came on the first singles court, as Maria Khomchenko and Romane Delay won on the sixth and third courts, respectively, to clinch the match for Coastal. Khomchenko's win occured in straight sets over Celeste Matute, ranked 111th in the ITA's latest singles rankings.
Coastal now starts a three-match road swing -- its first away matches of the season -- with a double-header in Greensboro, N.C., on Feb. 11. The Chants face UNC Greensboro in the morning, and North Carolina A&T in the afternoon.
