Women's Tennis Tops Richmond

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team matched its season-long winning streak Tuesday morning with a 5-2 victory over Richmond at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
Coastal (10-2) has won each of its last five matches since Feb. 19. Coastal had also won five straight matches earlier in the season from Jan. 28 -- Feb. 11.
The Chants surrendered the opening doubles point, but rebounded to win five of the six singles points.
"The team had another strong showing in singles. We are showing that we are resilient and tough after losing the doubles point," said head coach Catherine Hewitt.
Sara Bondar and Marie Babayan delivered a 6-1 win on the top doubles court, but Coastal fell behind on both the second and third courts, allowing Richmond to take a 1-0 match lead.
Richmond extended its lead once singles starters, as Brittany Boys defeated Maria Khmonchenko at No. 6.
It was all Coastal the rest of the way, however, with four of the five remaining Chants winning in straight sets.
Bondar started the comeback on the fifth court with a 6-4, 6-1 win. Natalie Wall followed at No. 2, downing Gaby Rosales, 6-3, 6-2. Rylie Cox gave Coastal its first lead of the match with a straight-sets win at No. 1, and Babayan delivered the match-clincher, 6-2, 6-3.
Romane Delay provided Coastal's final points, winning in three sets against Kiana Marshall on the fourth court.
Next up, Coastal kicks off a five-match road swing on Thursday with a neutral-site match against Ashland in Hilton Head, S.C.
