Pontiac, Mich. - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten in ASUN conference play taking down Detroit Mercy 12-6 in Pontiac, Sunday afternoon.
CCU improved their record on the season to 6-4, 3-0 in the ASUN, while the Titans fell to 2-9, and 0-4 in conference play.
The Chants got on the board first in with 28:11 when Haley Alexander found the back of the net with her first of three goals on the day. Alexander then followed up 2:13 later with her second goal with an assist from Madeline Bromley, giving CCU a 2-0 lead.
Courtney Genovese pushed the lead to 3-0, with a free position goal.
The Titans scored with 12:33 left in the first half, on a Lexie Kinmond unassisted goal to cut the lead to 3-1.
The second half started with Detroit Mercy scoring in the first 39 seconds to cut the lead to 3-2, when Kelsi Pritchard found the first of her three straight goals. The third goal gave the Titans their only lead of the day at 4-3.
Coastal tied it at 4-4 when Genovese (5 goals) found the back of the net for the Chants first goal of the second half. Alexander put a shot between the pipes to retake the lead, 5-4 with 21:53 left.
Detroit Mercy tied it at 5-5 with a Brianna Plester free position goal at the 21:10, before Genovese (20:44) scored the first of six straight, making it 6-5 for CCU.
Genovese scored twice (19:11, 13:04) more to push the lead to 8-5. Sophie Crowther (2 goals) and Bromley (1 goal and 4 assists) increased the lead to 11-5 before the Titans closed out their scoring with 2:54 left to trail 11-6.
Haley Kyger closed the scoring for the Chanticleers with 1:02 left in the game for the final tally of 12-6.
Harley Barrett got the win, to improve 5-4 on the season, and Allison McDonough dropped to 2-9 on the year.
Coastal Carolina returns to action Sunday, April 9, to take on Old Dominion in Conway, at 1:00 p.m.
