CONWAY - Coastal Carolina dominated Stetson 18-5, in Conway, Sunday afternoon. The final home match for the nine seniors could not have been scripted any better than a stingy defense and an explosive offense.
Keri White (three goals, three assists) led the way scoring 6 points in her final home match. Harley Barrett improved to 9-5 on the season in goal. The Chanticleers improved their record to 10-5 and 5-1 in conference play while the Hatters dropped to 5-10 and 5-4 in conference.
White got the offense going scoring, her first of the day, with 58 seconds elapsing from the opening draw for the one-nil lead and the leading pass from Jenny Thompson (one goal, three assists).
White and Thompson followed that up with their second goal-assist combination with 25:59 left, in the first half, giving the Chants a 2-0 lead.
Madeline Bromley, the fourth Chanticleer with a hat trick on the day, pushed the CCU lead to 3-0 scoring on the pass from Thompson.
Courtney Genovese gave Coastal a 4-0 lead, filling the back of the net on a free position shot.
Stetson's Taylor Patrizi ended the Chanticleer run on the Hatters first goal of the day to trail 4-1.
Genovese answered with 18:28 left until intermission to give the Chants a 5-1 lead.
Stetson won the draw and Shelby Lehmann worked down the field to score with just 37 seconds running off the clock.
Coastal's offense opened up going on a four to one run ending the first half and leading 9-3 at the half. Haley Alexander scored twice (11:00, 9:45) as part of the run, followed by Bromley (6:53) and Thompson (5:52) each getting one.
The Hatters closed out the scoring in the first half as Maddie Holvey filled the net with 3:11 left and was unable to get any closer.
Stetson opened the second half with a goal by Julia Lozano with 23:33 left in the regulation.
Alexander scored the next two Chanticleer goals (20:40, 19:42) for 11-4 lead, the closest the Hatters would get for the remainder of the match.
Genovese scored her final two goals (18:59, 17:44) of the day pushing the CCU lead to 13-4.
Bromley put the running clock in motion scoring for the 10-goal lead with 15:59 left on a free position shot, making it 14-4.
White closed out her home stand scoring with 12:53 left pushing the score to 15-4.
Fellow senior Alicia Geiter (one goal, two assists) scored her first goal of the season with 9:38 left in the game.
The Hatters got their final goal of the day from Lindsay Summers with 7:09 to trail 16-5.
Coastal closed out the scoring with Sarah McEvoy finding the back of the net with 5:57 left, and Haley Wells with 2:32 left for the final margin of 18-5.
The Chanticleers return to action on Friday, April 28 as it travels to Kennesaw, Ga., to take on Kennesaw State. The opening draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
