Chanticleer XC Sweeps The Sun Belt’s Weekly Awards

CONWAY - On Wednesday, the Sun Belt announced its cross country runners of the week and for the first time this season and for the second time in their careers, Coastal Carolina junior Nadeel Wildschutt and sophomore Lisha van Onselen have won weekly the honor for their efforts in last weekend's Adidas Winthrop Invitational.
Wildschutt was dominant at Winthrop event and he set a career-best in an 8K race with a time of 24.08.10. The South African native led throughout the race as he had splits of 8:34.2 at 2.8K and then 17:39.10 at the 5.8K mark. The 2017 all-American finished five seconds ahead his brother, Adriaan, as the brothers now have finished one and two for the second time this season.
In the women's 5K event, van Onselen picked up her first win in 2018 as last year's Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year finished with a time of 19:03.00. The sophomore also led throughout led the entire race and had a 2.8K split of 10:55.40. The South African native bested the next fastest runner in the event by 22 seconds.
Prior to this week, Wildschutt and van Onselen have picked one other runner of week award as both athletes won of the award last season on September 20, 2017.
