Chanticleers Blank Eagles 2-0

Statesboro, Ga. – Hannah Miller and Elisabeth Rockhill of the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team led the offensive attack in a 2-0 win at Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga., Friday evening. The Chanticleers improved to 7-5-1 overall and 6-1 in the Sun Belt while the Eagles dropped to 4-10 overall and 2-5 in conference action.

Miller got the Chants on the scoreboard in the 20th minute for the eventual game-winner from just outside the box beating the Georgia Southern goalkeeper to the far right post for the 1-0 lead. Miller's goal came not long after she fired a strike online only to see the keeper make a diving save using her nose to knock the ball away for a Coastal corner kick.

CCU doubled its lead in the 40th minute, as Rockhill collected the ball right in front of the goal and fired a shot that bounced off the host's goalkeeper gloves for the first goal of the season for the Baltimore, Md. native.

Goalkeeper Eva Knapstein had her third clean sheet and picked up her third victory of the season by tallying eight saves, including an outstanding diving stop to keep Georgia Southern off the scoreboard.

For the match the Chanticleers were outshot 17-14 overall, but held a 7-4 advantage in corner kick attempts.

Coastal Carolina will remain in the state of Georgia as they travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia State on Sunday, Oct. 14. The opening kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
