Atlanta, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon, as they fell 4-0 to Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga. The loss dropped the Chanticleers record to 7-6-1 overall and 6-2 in Sun Belt action while the Panthers improve to 6-9-1 on the season and 4-4 in the conference.
The host Panthers got on the scoreboard early when Brisa Zavala found the back of the net with 1:07 elapsing from the opening clock for the 1-0 lead. The eventual game-winner opened a three-goal attack for the Panthers in the first half against the CCU defense. In the 24th minute, the Panthers found the back of the net again when Monique Hundley chipped a shot over the outstretched arms of the Coastal goalkeeper. Georgia State added their third goal of the first half in the 39th minute when Rebecca Crouch punched one over the goalkeeper as both were diving for the ball just inside the box.
Hundley closed out the scoring in the second half making it 4-0 for the Panthers 48th minute.
The Chants were paced by
Mackenzie Gibbs with four shots, followed by
Hannah Miller,
Baylee Price and
Emilia Leturgez with two shots a piece.
For the match the Chanticleers were out-shot 20-14 but held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Coastal Carolina will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 21 as they will travel to San Marcos, Texas to take on the Sun Belt leader Texas State. The opening kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
