Game Notes/Depth Charts
Memorable Opponent
• Coastal Carolina is 1-0 all-time versus UMass on the gridiron.
• CCU's game versus UMass last season in the 2017 season opener was the Chanticleers' first game as members of the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and the Sun Belt Conference.
• The win over UMass was CCU's first-ever win over an FBS program, as the Chants were 0-7 versus FBS teams prior to the win.
2 X 2 X 2
• This marks the second meeting between Coastal Carolina and UMass in football.
• Both Coastal Carolina and UMass enter Saturday afternoon's contest on a two-game losing streak.
On the Road Again
• Saturday's game at UMass in Amherst, Mass. will be the fifth road game for the Chanticleers this season.
• The Chanticleers have played just two games at home over the first seven weeks of the 2018 season - Sept. 8 vs. UAB and last week (Oct. 13) against ULM.
• CCU'S home game with Campbell was moved up from Saturday, Sept. 15, to Wednesday, Sept. 12, and was relocated to Buies Creek, N.C. and Barker-Lane Stadium due to Hurricane Florence.
• With the location change to the Campbell game, the Chants played three-straight games on the road (Sept. 12 at Campbell, Sept. 22 at Louisiana and Sept. 29 at Troy).
• During that span, the Chanticleers were forced to evacuate from campus and their homes due to Hurricane Florence. CCU's players spent a total of 12 days - Sept. 11 through Sept. 22 - on the road in hotels in North Carolina, Florida and Louisiana, before returning to South Carolina. However, the campus was closed and the team had to stay in a hotel for another week until returning to campus on Sept. 29 after the road game at Troy.
Non-Conference Play
• Saturday's contest at UMass is the final non-conference game for the Chants this season.
• CCU is 2-1 in non-conference play in 2018 with the lone loss coming on the road at South Carolina (Sept. 1) in the 2018 opener.
Fourth Down Success
• CCU has been solid this season on fourth downs, as the offense ranks first in the Sun Belt and 12th nationally in fourth down conversions at 7-of-9 (77.8 percent) on the season.
• After not recording a single fourth down attempt over its first three games, the Chanticleers were a perfect 3-of-3 on fourth downs in the road win at Louisiana (Sept. 22).
• The Chants have gone 2-of-3 on fourth downs in each of their last two games at Troy (Sept. 29) and versus ULM (Oct. 13).
No Seniors Here
• The Chants are one of just 11 FBS teams across the nation to not have started a senior up front on the offensive line this season
