STATESBORO, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina volleyball team snapped its four-match losing streak in dominant fashion Tuesday evening, defeating Georgia Southern in three sets (25-22, 25-16, 20) at Hanner Fieldhouse.
It was one of Coastal's (7-11, 6-4) best outings in Sun Belt play this season as the Chants hit .306 as a team while racking up 47 kills, 42 assists, 41 digs and seven blocks in just three sets of action.
Anett Nemeth's 13 kill, 10 dig double-double, her ninth of the season, led the Chants.
Kaylah House had an impressive performance with 12 kills, an .800 hitting percentage and three blocks.
Kyla Manning added 10 kills,
Sara Boothe handed out 39 assists with a trio of blocks, and
Dora Lulic led the match with four blocks.
The lead changed sides only five times as Coastal controlled play for the majority of the match. Georgia Southern held the upper hand early in the first set, but the Chants rallied and finished out the match strong.
Trailing 17-14 in the opening set, Coastal won five straight points to go ahead of the Eagles by two.
Sydney Alvis had two aces during that stretch, and would add one more to her total before the end of the night. Georgia Southern tied the set twice over the next four points, but Coastal closed the opener on a 5-2 run to take the match's first lead.
The Chants' offense could not be stopped in the second set as Coastal landed 20 kills while hitting .471. House landed six kills on seven swings in the set, while Manning and Nemeth had five each. Coastal claimed the opening point and remained in front for the remainder of the game.
The third set featured Coastal's defense stifling Georgia Southern as the match wound down. The Chants limited the Eagles to hitting just .053 as they tallied 15 digs and a pair of blocks. Coastal led by as many seven points in the final set.
Following the quick trip to Georgia, Coastal returns to the HTC Center this weekend to host Sun Belt rivals Troy (Oct. 26) and South Alabama (Oct. 28).
