ATLANTA – Coastal Carolina University's women's golf team finished the first round of the Alexa Stirling Intercollegiate in ninth place after shooting a 20-over par 308.
After a four-hour rain delay, the event was finally able to get underway at 12:30 p.m. The first round was played in wet and rainy conditions.
Frantiska Lunackova had the best round of the day for Coastal, shooting a four-over 76 (39-37) during the opening round. She is tied for 24
th heading into tomorrow's second round action.
Marie Lunackova (35-42) and
Jenjira Jinangkul (39-38) each shot five-over 77. Heading into the second 18 holes tomorrow the pair are tied for 33
rd.
Alexandra Naumovski (37-41) and
Tiffany Arafi (38-40) are tied for 42
nd after shooting six-over 78's in today's round.
Stephanie Henning (39-40) was right behind with a seven-over 79 and is tied for 48
th.
The tournament's host, 36
th-ranked Louisville, leads the event after shooting an opening round 286 (-2), becoming the only team to shoot under par on the day.
Virginia Tech stands second after a four-over 292 and 30
th-ranked Auburn is just two shots back in third with a six-over 294. Another SEC team, and a local team, Georgia is fourth. The 29
th ranked Bulldogs are the highest ranked team in the event and shot an 11-over 299 in today's action.
East Carolina and Indiana are tied for fifth after both teams carded 15-over 303's. 38
th-ranked Kennesaw State shot a 16-over 304 and is just two shots in front of Mercer's 18-over 306 and four shots in front of the Chanticleers.
Dartmouth shot a 25-over 313 and Sun Belt rival Georgia State shot a 29-over 317.
