
Wildschutt and van Onselen Win At Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the second time in two events, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers were able to pick up wins in both the men's and women's races of the day. At Friday afternoon's Adidas Winthrop Invitational, junior Nadeel Wildschutt and sophomore Lisha van Onselen secured the wins as the Chanticleers were able to place a total of eight runners in the top ten.
MEN'S RESULTS (PDF)
The men were dominant in the 8K event as brothers Nadeel (24.08.10 – career-best in an 8K race) and Adriaan Wildschutt (24:13.20) took home first and second respectively as they finished over a minute faster than third place finisher and teammate Hutson Baumann (25:53.00).
Andrew Southard (6th, 27:18.60 ), Doug Mullen (8th, 28:01.70 ), and Andrew Avery (9th, 28:35.70) rounded out the top 10. Freshman Matthew Evans and sophomore Elijah Lawson rounded out the Chanticleer team with 16th (29:38.10) and 25th (32:13.20) place finishes.
The men picked up the team win with a score of 16 as they averaged a time 25:54.92 in 8K event.
WOMEN'S RESULTS (PDF)
In the women's 5K event, van Onselen picked up her first win in 2018 as last year's Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year finished with a time of 19:03.00.
Three weeks ago at the Coastal Carolina Invite, freshman Laura Croll picked up her first-career win with a time of 20:14.90, but Friday Croll picked up second straight top-five finish as she placed third with a time of 19:32.70.
Rounding out the women's squad was; Heather Delaplaine (13th, 21:07.50), Lexi Carpenter (23rd, 22:30.50), Alyssa Lynch(26th, 22:54.40), Rebecca Lehman (30th, 24:35.70).
The CCU women took second place with a score of 54 as they averaged time of 21:01.62.
The Winthrop courses are the site of this year's NCAA Regionals on November 9 as qualifying Coastal runners will be in competition.
