CONWAY – Heston Neal scored her first goal of the season to give the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team a 1-0 win over the visiting ULM Warhawks, Sunday afternoon on the pitch at the CCU Soccer Stadium. Prior to the match, CCU recognized its three seniors on this year's squad for Senior Day.
 
The win improved the Chants to 6-5-1 and 5-1 in Sun Belt action while keeping ULM winless at 0-14 overall and 0-7 in the conference.
 
Coastal was the aggressor throughout the match out-shooting the Warhawks 12-3 in the first period with five being on frame. Neal found her way just inside the box before being tackled hard from behind to be awarded the opportunity of a penalty kick in the 37th minute. She took full advantage of it putting the eventual game-winning goal in the net by hitting the upper right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead, as the ULM goalkeeper moved to Neal's left leaving the complete right side wide open.
 
The second half was more aggressive attacks on the offensive end of the pitch by CCU but they were unable to add any more to the scoreboard. For the match Coastal out-shot their counterparts 30-8 overall and held a 10-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
 
The Chanticleers had two solid opportunities to add to their tally with one header bouncing off the post and back into play and the other when Loranna Austin was one-vs-one but was unable to push the shot through the outstretched arms of the visitors goalkeeper.
 
Eva Knapstein picked up her second victory and clean sheet in as many starts by making six saves with five being in the second half. The defense helped her out tremendously by taking away the ball whenever the Warhawks look to have an advantage.
 
Coastal Carolina will look to stay hot as they will travel for three of the final four matches. On Friday, Oct. 14, the Chants will travel to Statesboro, Ga. to take on Georgia Southern. The opening kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
