RIVERSIDE, CALIF. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team (2-1) fell to the UC Riverside Highlanders (1-3) on Sunday afternoon at the UC Riverside Student Recreation Center by the score of 63-42. In a match-up versus inter conference foes; the Big West counterpart was able to hold CCU to 18 percent (11-of-59) shooting.

Coastal got out to a 7-4 lead with 2:33 left in the first quarter, but that was the last lead the Chanticleers would see on the day as the Highlanders would go onto to cause 22 turnovers while adding 13 steals and seven blocks.

UCR broke the game open in the second quarter with 3:36 left as they went on a 9-0 to end the stanza. During the stretch, the Highlanders shot 2-of-5 from the field, as Keilani Cooper put in five of the nine points in that run. The Riverside defensed stifled the CCU offense causing five turnovers in the final moments and 12 turnovers in total in the first period.

DJ Williams, a Moreno Valley native, whom returned to California for the first time as collegiate athlete came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points on 4-of-14 shooting.

Aja Blount scored a career-high 12 points off the bench as the freshman center went 4-of-5 from the foul line.Â
Janae Camp also added a new benchmark in the contest as the sophomore forward collected 12 boards.

The Chants were able to win the rebound battle in the contest 52-36 to go along with the nine steals they added with their pressure defense.

The Highlanders had three scorers in double-digits; Cooper (17), Tianna Eaton (13), and Marina Ewodo (10).
