SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team lost 2-1 to Georgia State in the first semifinal game of the Sun Belt Championship.
Despite out shooting the Panthers 14-10 and 5-3 in shots on goal, the Chants could only find the back of the net one time in the 90 minute affair.
Georgia State scored in the 13
th minute when Max Hemmings scored on an assist from George Proctor. That early goal would last for 23 minutes, until
Jaiden Fortune was fouled by the Panther goalie in the 38
th minute. Fortune knocked in the penalty kick to even the score.
With the score even at halftime, Georgia State came out in the second half and pressed the Chants defense. After several attempts in the CCU box, Frank Rosenwald was able to pick up a rebound in front of the Coastal net and put the ball in the goal in the 76
th minute. It turned out to be the match-winner.
The Chants did not go down without a fight and came close to tying the score on a
Paul Odendahl header that deflected off the cross bar with just a few minutes left in the match.
