
Women's Tennis Wins 6-1 at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team picked up its first win of season Thursday afternoon, defeating UNC Wilmington 6-1 at UNCW Court.
The Chants move to 1-1 on the season while the Seahawks remain winless at 0-3.
"It was great team effort today," said head coach Catherine Hewitt. "Everyone stepped up in big situations to get the job done."
Coastal opened the match with a sweep of the doubles courts. Sara Bondar and Somer Dalla-Bona opened with a 6-4 victory on the top court, and Natalie Wall and Jessie Mount followed with a similar victory at No. 2. Iryna Vardanian and Alexa Tiefel finished the sweep in a close 7-5 match on the third.
Dalla-Bona grabbed the first singles point in straight sets at No. 2. Vardanian also won in straight sets on the first court to put the Chants in front 3-0, and Tiefel sealed the match on the fifth court.
Bondar (No. 3) and Wall (No. 6) provided the final two points for the Chants.
Maddy Muller-Hughes defeated Maria Khomchenko at No. 4 for the Seahawks' lone point of the match.
Next up, the Chants head to Campbell for a 2 p.m. match on Feb. 7.
