CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team suffered a close 4-3 loss on Wednesday as Monmouth slipped past the Chants at the Stevens Tennis Complex.

The loss evens Coastal's record at 6-6, while Monmouth improves to 4-11.

Coastal fell behind early after Monmouth captured the doubles point on the second and third courts. The No. 1 doubles match went unfinished after the point had been clinched.

The six singles points were split evenly, with Coastal winning on courts one, four and six.

Luiz Faria defeated Nicola Pipoli in straight sets at No. 1, and Lawrence Perrin won in similar fashion over Will Wharton at No. 6. Paul Boulay split the first two sets with Max Benaim at No. 4 before taking the point with a 6-1 win in the third.

Next up, Coastal plays its first conference matches of the season as the Chants host a pair of Sun Belt foes this weekend. The Chants take on Troy at 1 p.m. on Friday, and Georgia Southern at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
