Coastal Falls In Final Game of Series At ULM

March 31, 2018

Final Stats

MONROE, LA - The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (17-20, 2-10 SBC) were swept in the final game of their three-game series to the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks (18-13, 6-6 SBC) by the score of 8-2. ULM players Sydney McKay and Jesse Watts picked up two hits and two runs batted in apiece in the victory over the Chants.

After picking up a first inning 1-0 lead, the Warhawks extended their lead out to 3-0 in the second inning as they used RBI singles from McKay and Hunter Hogan.

The Chants picked up two runs in the top of the sixth inning as sophomore Kassidy Smith reached base as ULM shortstop Jayden Mount misplayed a routine groundball in the hole. Next batter, Alexis Alvino hit her third double of the season to right field to bring home a hustling Smith. After a groundout by senior Kailey Mellen, Alvino moved over to third to set up a sacrifice fly from freshman Courtney Dean and cut the Warhawks lead down to 4-2.

Just as the Chanticleers tied it, ULM tacked on four more runs in the bottom half of the sixth as Megan Shaw led off the inning with a single back up the middle off Coastal starter Ashley Guillette. Two batters later, after a sacrifice bunt that moved Shaw over to second, McKay lined a triple to right field that brought home the aforementioned Shaw from second. The next batter, shortstop Mount secured the victory with an RBI in double to left field. The Warhawks added two more later in the inning as they went onto win by the score of 8-2.

In the game three loss, Natalie David went a perfect 3-for-3. On the weekend, the junior went 6-for-9 (.667) with two runs batted in. The left fielder has also hit safely now in eight of her last ten games.

Guillette took the loss on the day as the junior went 5.1 innings, allowing eight hits and six earned.
