Sun Belt Announces Tennis Championship Seedings

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Sun Belt Conference on Tuesday released the brackets for the 2018 Men's and Women's Tennis Championships. The Chanticleer women earned the third seed, which includes a first-round bye and places them directly into the April 20 quarterfinals. On the men's side, the Chants were seeded eighth, and will face top-seeded Georgia State in the first round on April 20.
Women's Bracket
The Chanticleer women closed the regular season with a 16-6 overall record, and a 3-2 record against Sun Belt opponents. The Chants' conference wins came against Georgia Southern, Appalachian State and South Alabama, while the losses were to Troy and Georgia State. Coastal will not face any of its regular season opponents in the quarterfinal round, however, as it gets the winner of the first round match between No. 6 ULM and No. 11 Arkansas State. It will be the first meeting in program history against either of those schools since joining the Sun Belt.
The women enter the tournament having won nine of their last 10 matches, including eight straight from March 14 -- April 7. Coastal was strong on its home court this year, winning all 11 matches at the Stevens Tennis Complex. The Chants were 5-6 when they had to travel, however, going 4-4 in away matches and 1-2 neutral matches.
Men's Bracket
The Chanticleer men earned the tournament's final seed after finishing 6-14 in the regular season while falling in a pair of Sun Belt matches to Troy and Georgia Southern. Coastal will be facing Georgia State (12-10, 2-1) for the first time this season.
Coastal's men will look to advance past the opening round of the Sun Belt Championship for the first time since joining the conference. In its first trip to the tournament last year, fifth-seeded Coastal fell to the four seed, Troy, in the first round.
