Haley Kyger Surges the Chants Past Old Dominion

Norfolk, Va. - Haley Kyger continued with her end of season offensive surge to pace the Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team past Old Dominion 16-5, Saturday afternoon, in Norfolk. The Chanticleers improved to 9-8, 4-1 in the ASUN, while ODU dropped to 5-11 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Kyger tallied seven points on five goals and two assists to lead the Coastal offense. Haley Alexander, Julia Imbo, and Sophie Crowther followed with three points each getting two goals and one assist. Jordan Harrell and Madeline Bromley each had two points, Harrell with two goals and Bromley with one goal and one assist. Lyla Robinson and Samantha Courtemanche closed out the offensive surge each getting one goal.

The Chanticleers scored first with 37 seconds elapsing from the game clock for the early one nil lead on Kyger's first goal of the day. Crowther made it 2-to-0 with 27:44 remaining in the first half with the free position shot and goal. Imbo found the back of the net with the dish from Kyger to give CCU the three to zero lead with 23:07 on the clock. Kyger followed with a free position shot and goal with 21:57 to push the lead to four nil.

The Monarchs finally get on the board with 20:23 remaining in the first half when Sophia Richie beat the Chanticleer goalie to trail four to one.

Coastal fired off the next three goals, Kyger getting the hat trick goal with 19:23 remaining in the first half and a 5-to-1 lead. Imbo made it six one with 16:29 remaining on the game clock. Bromley scored her lone goal of the match with Alexander getting the assist to increase the Chants lead to seven one with 15:04 to go until halftime.

ODU pulled within 7-to-3, on goals by Hanna Breslin (6:47) and Glory Johnson (6:06) to close out the Monarchs scoring in the first half.

Harrell (4:48), Alexander (3:33), and Crowther (00:11) tallied the final three goals in the first half for the Coastal Carolina 10-3 advantage.

The second half scoring was started by Courtemanche with 22:33 to play to increase the Chanticleer lead to 11-3. Kyger made it 12-3 with the unassisted goal with 1:01 expiring off the clock.

Richie answered for ODU to make it 12-4 with her second goal with 18:51 remaining to play.

Harrell and Kyger both finding the back of the net to give CCU a 10 goal lead and a running clock, with 14:24 and 13:32 respectively.

The Monarchs Richie made it 14-5 with her hat trick goal and ODU's final goal with 10:38 remaining to play.

Robinson scored her lone goal with Kyger getting her final point on the assist with 3:27 remaining, and Alexander closed out the scoring with 59 seconds on the clock with the Imbo assist and final margin of 16-5.

Coastal Carolina will be the #2 seed in the ASUN Championships in Jacksonville, Fla. The semifinals will take place on May 3 and the finals are scheduled for May 5 with times to be announced.
