CONWAY - Haley Alexander and Haley Kyger both scored four goals to lead Coastal Carolina 17-13 over Stetson, Thursday afternoon, in Brooks Stadium. The Chanticleers women's lacrosse team improved to 5-6 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Hatters fall to 2-9 and 0-1.

Alexander (28 goals, 11 assists for the season) started the scoring with a free position goal and kick-starting a five-goal run for CCU with 28:38 on the clock. Megan Busch followed with an unassisted goal with 26:45 until the half to make it two-nil in favor of the Chants. Kyger (16 goals, 11 assists on the season) teamed up with Julia Imbo to make it three to zero with 23:40 remaining in the half. Alexander then made it five-nil on back to back unassisted goals, for the hat trick, with just 53 seconds elapsing from the clock.

Stetson's Karlie Maguire filled the back of the net on a free position shot to make it a five-one match for CCU with 21:56 remaining.

Busch pushed the Coastal lead back to five with her second goal of the day on a free position goal with 19:48 to go until the half.

The Hatters scored twice with Maddie Holvey (19:02) and Rachel Valocchi (17:48) to cut the Chanticleer lead in half at 6-to-3.

Imbo (3 goals, 1 assist on the day) made it a seven-three match with the feed from Jordan Harrell with 16:50 remaining in until halftime.

Riley Reagan answered for Stetson with 15 minutes remaining in the half to make it seven to four.

Imbo (14:26, 3:01) sandwiched a Sarah McEvoy goal (12:14) to give the Chants a 10 to four lead.

Shelby Lehmann, of the Hatters, closed out the scoring in the first half with three goals (2:31, 2:09, and 1:21) for the halftime margin of 10-7.

Holvey opened up the scoring in the second half with 4:30 elapsing from the clock to pull Stetson within two at 10-8.

Kyger and Lyla Robinson teamed up for back to back goals (24:04, 22:52) to make it 12-8.

The Hatters scored four goals (Lehmann 20:06, Hallie Merz 18:51, Holvey 17:48, and Taylor Patrizi 16:23) to knot the match at 12-12 before Coastal answered with five goals.

Sophie Crowther teamed up with Busch to make it 13-12 with 15:09 remaining, followed by Madeline Bromley 54 seconds later to make it 14-12. Alexander closed out her scoring with 7:13 to play with the assist from Crowther. Kyger and Robinson teamed up for the third time making it 16-12 with 5:47 left in the game. Abbey Buchanan closed out the Chanticleer scoring making it 17-12 nine seconds later on a free position goal.

Stetson closed out the scoring for the final margin with 4:10 left to play, on a Sandra Stephan free position goal.

Coastal Carolina will be back in action on Sunday, April 8, in Conway, to take on the defending ASUN champions Jacksonville. The opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
