Coastal Wins Seventh Straight With Shutout of SC State

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team shut out South Carolina State, 7-0, Thursday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex, extending the Chanticleers' season-long winning streak to seven matches.
Coastal improves to 14-5 overall with the win, and has now had a winning streak of seven matches or longer in each of its last five seasons.
Coastal began the match with a 1-0 lead as SC State only had five players, awarding Alexa Tiefel a win by default at No. 6 singles. That also meant that Tiefel and Maria Khomchenko automatically won the first half of the doubles point, as the Bulldogs could not field a third doubles pairing.
Iryna Vardanian and Natalie Wall secured the doubles point with a 6-2 victory at No. 1. Brooke Campbell and Jessie Mount followed suit with a similar win on the second court.
All five singles courts were won by the Chants in straight sets.
Vardanian started it off on the first court, and Cox provided the match-winning point at No. 2.
Mount (No. 5), Wall (No. 3) and Khomchenko (No. 4) completed the sweep.
Coastal now hits the road to close out its Sun Belt Conference schedule this weekend in Atlanta, Ga. The Chants face Troy on Saturday and South Alabama on Sunday.
