Jacksonville, Fla. - Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team advanced to its second consecutive ASUN Championship match by virtue of defeating the #3 seed Kennesaw State 18-8, in Jacksonville Thursday evening. The Chants improved their record to 10-8 overall while the Owls fell to 7-11.

The offense was paced by Haley Kyger with six goals and one assist, Haley Alexander four goals, while the defense was led by ASUN Defensive Player of the Year Harley Barrett with 11 saves.

Kyger started the scoring, giving CCU a one to nil lead with 27:06 to play in the first half. Jordan Harrell followed with a free-position shot and goal, for the two-goal lead with 24:16 remaining until halftime.

KSU made it 2-to-1 on the Haley Swift goal with 22:58 remaining in the half, and the assist from Anna Giulitto.

Megan Busch followed with a free-position shot and goal with 44 seconds elapsing from the game clock for the three to one Chanticleer lead. Sophie Crowther increased the CCU lead to four one on her free-position shot and goal with 20:10 left in the first half. At 16:05, Kyger made it 5-to-1 with her second goal of the day.

ASUN Freshman of the Year Siena Gore answered with a free-position shot and goal to pull the Owls within five to two and closed the scoring for Kennesaw State.

Kyger rallied with her hat trick goal with 9:43 left to play in the first half making it 6-to-2 and turned around making it seven to two with 4:39 left on the clock. Alexander closed out the first half scoring teaming up with Madeline Bromley to make it 8-2 at the half.

KSU scored the first goal of the second half to pull within eight to three when Gore found the back of the net on her second free-position shot and goal with 29:26 left to play.

Coastal's Kyger (28:09) and Alexander (26:17) answered the Owls goal to give the Chants a 10-3 lead.

Swift followed with her second goal of the day with 25:16 to play to make it 10-4 for CCU.

Crowther and Bromley answered the Owls goal to make it 12-4 with 24:37 and 23:21 left to play respectively.

Connor Zophy made it 12-5 with the unassisted goal and 21:45 remaining to play.

Alexander scored her hat trick goal to make it 13-5 for Coastal with 19:58 on the clock. Kyger closed out her scoring with a goal at 18:21 and assisting Alexander with 17:01 to give the Chants a running clock. Sarah McEvoy tallied her lone goal of the day with 13 minutes left to play and the assist from Crowther to make it 16-5. Samantha Courtemanche sandwiched (8:35 and 5:43) an Owl goal (7:03) to close out the scoring for Coastal to make it 18-6.

KSU's Giulitto (5:07) and Gore (3:30) closed out the scoring in the game for the final margin of 18-8.

Coastal Carolina will next take on Jacksonville for a rematch of last season's ASUN championship match, Saturday, May 5. The opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
