May 31, 2018 Collegiate Baseball 2018 NCAA Division I All-Americans
CONWAY - Three Chanticleer infielders -- first baseman Kevin Woodall Jr., second baseman Cory Wood and shortstop Seth Lancaster -- were each named third team NCAA Division I All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball, the publication announced today.
The trio run Coastal's total to 34 players that have earned All-American recognition and a total of 10 over the last three seasons.
Woodall, a two-time first team All-Sun Belt selection, was one of three players in the NCAA to rank among the NCAA top 30 in home runs (7th with 19), RBI (28th with 62) and runs scored (7th with 67). Woodall caught fire late in the season, being named to the Sun Belt All-Tournament team, and raised his season batting average 32 points over the last 10 games to an even .300 for the season. On the CCU single-season lists, he currently ranks fifth in home runs, 11th in runs scored and 13th in RBI. On the school's career lists, he currently ranks fourth in home runs (40), 11th in games played (211) 14th in RBI (142) and 15th in walks (92). Woodall reached base safely (hit/walk/hit by pitch) in 56 of CCU's 59 games.
Wood, a first team All-Sun Belt pick this season and Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American last season, ranks 17th in the NCAA in walks (50) while he ranks third in the Sun Belt in doubles (18), third in toughest to strikeout (9.5) and seventh in runs scored (55). Over his last 36 games, Wood has scored 38 runs and drawn 40 walks. He had a reached base streak of 38 games end versus Troy in the Sun Belt championship game. It was just the second time this season Wood did not reach base safely (hit/walk/hit by pitch) and just the fourth time he did not reach safely in his two-year career.
Lancaster, a first team All-Sun Belt pick, may be the hottest hitter in the NCAA -- if not the most productive. Over his last six games, Lancaster has 16 runs scored, 14 RBI, six home runs and 10 walks. The Hanahan product is the only player the nation to rank among the NCAA top 10 in runs scored (2nd with 79), home runs (7th with 19) and walks (6th with 61). His numbers were bolstered as he was named to the Sun Belt All-Tournament team with 10 runs scored, three home runs and eight walks. On the CCU single-season lists, Lancaster ranks second in walks, third in runs scored and fifth in home run while he ranks among the CCU all-time leaders in walks (third), home runs (fifth), runs scored (seventh), games played (11th) and stolen bases (13th).
