Coastal Carolina Announces Men’s Golf Schedule for 2018-19

CONWAY – Coastal Carolina will play in some of the nation's top men's golf events in 2018-19, as well as host one of the premier events – the 18th annual General Hackler Championship presented by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, Chanticleer head coach Jim Garren announced today.
The centerpiece on the schedule is the General Hackler Championship, which will be held Mar. 11-12 at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club for the fifth consecutive year. Of the 13 teams committed to date, four played in the 2018 NCAA Championship (Texas A&M, Kent State, Kentucky and North Florida) while five additional teams participated in an NCAA Regional (host Coastal Carolina, Georgia, Liberty, Louisville and Wake Forest) along with Ian Snyman (North Texas) qualifying as an individual.
In addition to hosting the General Hackler Championship, Coastal Carolina and the Myrtle Beach Regional Sports Alliance will host the 2019 NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional at TPC Myrtle Beach May 12-15).
"I am excited about this year's schedule," Garren said. "The word that comes to mind with this schedule is not tough but rather it would be opportunity. We have a huge opportunity to prove our growth as a program this year. There is no let up this season. We have to bring it every single week. Case in point is we open up in Minnesota with three of the top 15 teams from NCAA Championship last year, including two teams (Oklahoma and Texas) that made match play. And, of course, the Hackler will once again be a showcase of some of the nation's top talent.
"Our goal is to have post season success," Garren added. "In order to do that, you have to test yourself all year against the best teams, in different conditions and in different parts of the country. We have to embrace the 'anybody, anywhere, anytime' mindset. In addition to preparing us for post season, this is the type of schedule that student-athletes want play and will attract them to Coastal."
The team's fall schedule will feature four new events, all being nationally recognized as top-tier events. The Chanticleers will open their campaign Sept. 9-10 at Minnesota's Gopher Invitational. Five days later, Coastal will stay up north to play in the Northern Intercollegiate at Rich Harvest Farms on the outskirts of Chicago. Rich Harvest Farms has hosted the 2017 NCAA Championship, two NCAA Regionals, the 2015 Palmer Cup and 2009 Solheim Cup. Coastal will close September (28-29) at the 64th annual William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the University of New Mexico's Championship South Course. The final new event on the schedule is the Maridoe Intercollegiate, hosted by North Texas from Oct. 6-8.
Coastal Carolina's final event of the fall is the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges (Jonesborough, Tenn.). ETSU's annual tournament is one of Coastal's most played events, excluding the General Hackler Championship, as the Chants have participated in 10 of the last 11 ETSU fall events, missing 2011 and winning the 2008 team title.
The spring portion of the schedule will be more familiar, but just as competitive.
The Chants will start the spring at the annual SunTrust Gator Invitational Feb. 16-17. Coastal will then have nearly a month to prepare for its own General Hackler Championship (Mar. 11-12). Next up will the Furman Intercollegiate Mar. 22-24 followed by the always-tough John Hayt Collegiate Invitational, also a staple on the CCU schedule and played at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., from Mar. 31-Apr. 1.
New on the spring schedule and final tournament prior to the conference championship is another one of the nation's top 30 events, the Mason Rudolph Invitational, played Apr. 7-9 in Franklin, Tenn., as Vanderbilt's Legends Club.
The regular season will close as the Chanticleers – and senior Morgan Deneen – look to defend their Sun Belt team and individual championships. The conference tournament will once again be held at the raven Golf Course at Sandestin (Miramar Beach, Fla.) and be contested April 21-24.
