Blevins Announced as Women’s Tennis Assistant

CONWAY – Meghan Blevins has been named an assistant coach for the Coastal Carolina women's tennis team, it was announced Tuesday by head coach Catherine Hewitt.
Blevins, a former University of South Carolina student-athlete, comes to Coastal Carolina after a one-year stint as the tennis professional at the Thornblade Club. She had previously gained collegiate coaching experience during the 2016-17 season as an assistant at Utah State University.
"Meghan is the full package when it comes to a coach," said Hewitt. "I feel extremely lucky to have the opportunity to work alongside someone the caliber of Meghan. She is known for her passion and fire, and I am beyond excited to welcome her to the Chanticleer family."
While at Thornblade, Blevins developed and trained junior players, taught private lessons to adults and juniors, managed tennis clinics, and planned conditioning and fitness programs. Blevins began her tenure at Thornblade in September of 2017.
Blevins spent the prior year as an assistant coach at Utah State, helping the Aggies to a 13-11 overall record and a spot in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Championship. Blevins assisted with the development of two All-Mountain West student-athletes that season, including Sabrina Demerath, who set a single-season school record with 23 doubles wins.
During her collegiate career, Blevins was a two-time team MVP with the Gamecocks, compiling a team-best 54 victories over singles and doubles as a senior. The total was the most by a member of the USC women's tennis team in over two decades. Her win total included a team-best 27-10 record in singles, where she played at No. 2 through No. 5. In addition to her performance on the court, Blevins excelled in the classroom and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll each year.
Blevins began her collegiate career at Oklahoma State and posted consecutive 21-win season in singles. The win totals included appearance both the quarterfinals and round of 16 at the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships as a sophomore and freshman, respectively. Her performance garnered awards during her freshman year as she was named ITA Central Region Freshman of the Year.
"I am incredibly thankful that Coach Hewitt has offered me this opportunity," said Blevins. "To be able to work for an athletic program like Coastal Carolina, and for a coach as passionate and successful as Catherine is a huge honor. I am excited to get there and start working towards a fun and successful season with a great group of student-athletes."
