
Men’s and Women’s Tennis Awarded ITA Academic Honors

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's tennis teams have been honored as 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Teams. In addition, the women's team had all nine of its student-athletes recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes, while the men's team had five student-athletes earn the individual honor.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above. All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
The Chanticleer women's tennis program boasted a combined 3.84 GPA to lead all of Coastal's athletic programs for the third straight year, and all of Coastal's women's teams for the fifth straight year. All nine members of the team, including Sara Bondar, Brooke Campbell, Rylie Cox, Somer Dalla-Bona, Maria Khomchenko, Jessie Mount, Alexa Tiefel, Iryna Vardanian and Natalie Wall, were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
It is the 20th consecutive year that the women have received ITA All-Academic Team honors, and the second consecutive season in which every member of the team was honored as an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
The Chanticleer men's tennis team posted a combined 3.42 GPA in 2017-18 to lead all Coastal Carolina men's programs for the second time in the last three years. The ITA Scholar-Athletes on the men's side included Gonzalez Achondo, Juan Castellanos, Francesco Cori-Gamero, Luiz Faria and Zak Talic.
The Chanticleer men have received ITA All-Academic Team honors in 13 of the last 14 seasons.
