Williamsburg, Va. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team fell to host William & Mary 2-0 in non-conference action in Williamsburg, Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped the Chants record to 1-2-1 on the season while the Tribe improved to 1-3.
For the first 45 minutes, the team battled to a zero to zero tie at the break, with William & Mary outshooting Coastal 7-to-2 and both those coming off the foot of
Loranna Austin.
The Tribe opened the scoring in the second half when Sarah Segan was awarded a penalty kick after being taken down inside the box. She fired a kick by the stretched out arms of the diving goalie for the eventual game-winning goal and the 1-to-nil lead at the 53:46 mark. Segan added an insurance goal by beating the Chants goalie 1v1 after a pass from Erin Dailey with just under 30 minutes of time left in regulation.
In the second half,
Mackenzie Gibbs fired off three shots to lead the offense for CCU, along with
Brianna Oliver and
Wilma Gullqvist getting one shot each. For the match, the Chants were outshot 11-7 and trailed 5-2 in corner attempts.
Coastal Carolina will return home Thursday, Sept. 6 to host the UNCW Seahawks. The opening kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
