Troy, Ala. – Lauren Dabner and
Hannah Miller each scored to lead the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over the Troy Trojans, Sunday afternoon in Troy, Ala. The win improved the Chants record to 4-4-1 overall and 3-0 in Sun Belt action while the Trojans fell to 2-9-1 and 1-2 in the conference.
The first 20 minutes were evenly matched defensively as neither was able to get an advantage on the other. Coastal struck first when Dabner took the penalty kick after a Troy defender fouled a CCU player in the box. Dabner beat the hosts' goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.
Troy answered with 30 seconds remaining in the first half, knotting the match up at 1-1 when Grace Mirly collected a Karina Valeriano shot off the crossbar and fired a strike past the Chanticleer goalie.
Hannah Miller put Coastal in front 2-1 in the 52nd minute off the
Kiera Heslam pass from the left wing with what proved to be the game-winner.
The CCU defense was superb all afternoon, as the Chants held the Trojans to just three shots on goal in the win.
Coastal Carolina will return to action in the friendly confines of CCU Soccer Stadium against Appalachian State, Saturday (Sept. 29). The opening kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
