Boone, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team saw their three game-winning streak snapped in a 2-0 loss to Appalachian State on Sunday afternoon. The match was originally scheduled to be played in Conway, but due to the aftermath of Hurricane Florence it was moved to Appalachian Soccer Stadium at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex in Boone, N.C.
With the loss, the Chants fall to 4-5-1 overall and 3-1 in Sun Belt action, while ASU improved to 6-4-1 and 3-0 on the season in league play.
Despite getting outshot 14-8 in the match, the Mountaineers capitalized early when Jessica Easley found Blair Anderes for the score in the fifth minute for the 1-0 lead. Twenty-three minutes later Jessica Peters scored her first of the season for the eventual final score of 2-0.
The Chanticleers offense applied pressure throughout the match putting seven shots on frame, but were unable to crack open the scoring.
Hannah Miller and
Lauren Dabner led the offense with three shots each followed by
Mackenzie Gibbs and
Baylee Price with two shots apiece.
Coastal Carolina will return to action Friday (Oct. 5) at the friendly confines of the CCU Soccer Stadium in Conway, S.C. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
