Volleyball Sweeps ULM

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina volleyball team completed its Sun Belt sweep of the weekend as the Chanticleers shut out ULM in three sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-11) Sunday afternoon at the HTC Center.
 
Coastal improves to 2-0 in conference play, and 7-10 overall for the season. ULM falls to 7-10, 0-4.
 
The Chants hit .286 for the match – their highest percentage of the season – while limiting ULM to a .000 hitting percentage.
 
Coastal's defense tallied 47 digs and eight blocks over the three sets. Offensively, the Chants put down 39 kills and a season-high eight service aces.
 
Outside hitter Anett Nemeth paced the Chants with 12 kills at a .500 clip. The freshman also tallied a match-leading 15 digs for her second consecutive double-double, and had a pair of aces. Kyla Manning also finished with double digit kills, landing 10 at a .269 pace.
 
Sydney Alvis had 12 digs and two aces, while Sara Boothe had a match high of 27 assists and also found hardwood twice on serves.
 
Coastal's offense came out of the gate firing, hitting .433 in the opening set. Nemeth and Manning had five kills each in the frame as the Chants cruised to an eight-point set win.
 
The second set was slightly closer, featuring eight ties and three lead changes. The final tie of the set came as ULM's Sara Woods put down at kill to even the score at 20-20. The Chants then rattled off five straight points to take a 2-0 match lead.
 
The final set was never in doubt as Coastal held the lead from start to finish. The Chants jumped out to quick 10-3 lead, causing ULM to call its first timeout. Coming out of the break, Coastal went on a 7-1 run to take a commanding lead. The Chants had 11 digs and four blocks in the final frame, leading to a -.143 hitting percentage for ULM.
 
Sunday's win extended Coastal's winning streak in Sun Belt matches to 16. The Chants will look to extend that streak next weekend when they host Arkansas State (Oct. 5) and Little Rock (Oct. 7) at the HTC Center.
