Series – UAB Leads 1-0
The Chanticleers will host the Blazers for the first-time at Brooks Stadium after the two teams met in Birmingham last year. The Blazers won the first-ever matchup between the two schools, 30-23, on a late touchdown after Coastal scored 18 second-half points.
Last Time Out – Season Openers
The Chanticleers opened the season with a 49-15 loss at South Carolina last weekend, who checked in at No. 24 in both the AP Top 25 and the Amway Coaches Poll Top 25 this week.
UAB opened the season with a 52-0 victory at home over Savannah State last Saturday in Birmingham, Ala.
Coastal in Home Openers
Coastal is 12-3 in home openers and has won each of its last seven home opening tilts at Brooks Stadium. The Chants have yet to lose a home opener since the arrival of head coach
Joe Moglia in 2012. Coastal began its FBS era with a 38-28 home opening win over UMass to start last season.
Young Chants
Coastal Carolina is one of the youngest FBS teams this season, as the Chanticleers have a total of 92 underclassmen (freshmen, redshirt freshmen and sophomores) on their roster. In fact, 76.0 percent of the Coastal roster is comprised of underclassmen, which ranks second in all of FBS football only to Illinois (76.5 percent).
