Women’s Tennis Falls to Campbell in Season Opener

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team suffered a close, 4-3 loss to Campbell in its 2019 season opening match at the Stevens Tennis Complex on Saturday.
Campbell (1-2) won the doubles point and three of the first four singles matches. Coastal (0-1) captured its singles points on courts two, three and six.
Jennifer Brown and Somer Dalla-Bona opened the doubles round with a 6-1 win on the first court. The Camels responded with 6-4 and 6-3 wins on the second and third courts, respectively, to take the match's first point.
Campbell stretched its lead to 3-0 as Ana Castillo defeated Viktorija Demcenkova at No. 1, and Lea Cutura topped Jessie Mount at No. 4.
Coastal's first point of the match came on the third court were Dalla-Bona defeated Inma Ramon in straight sets. It was too late, however, as Campbell won the next point at No. 5 to clinch the match.
Maria Khomchenko won at No. 6 in straight sets, and Brown took No. 2 in three sets.
Coastal has a week off before returning to action next Saturday at UNC Greensboro for a 1 p.m. match.
