Coastal Carolina volleyball battle with first-place on the line against Mountaineers

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina volleyball team will host the Appalachian State Mountaineers with first-place on the line in the Sun Belt East on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at The HTC Center part of the annual Pink Out game

History against Appalachian State

The Chanticleers hold an all-time record of 4-2 over the Mountaineers, but it was App State who won both contests in 2018.

In the rematch just two days later, the two teams went the distance as the Mountaineers took the match by a 3-2 (25-21, 18-25,25-20, 20-25, 16-14) count. CCU had three players in double-digit kills: Manning (20), Nemeth (19), and Ani Bozdeva (13).

Last Friday, CCU took down Little Rock in three sets by the score of 25-9, 25-22, 25-15 from a pair of double-doubles by Nemeth (14 kills and 12 digs) and freshman setter Brigitta Petrenko (31 assists and 13 digs). Junior Mariia Levanova also earned her first double-digit kill performance in three matches as she tallied 12.

In the 3-1 (25-18,17-25,25-15, 25-22) victory over Arkansas State on Saturday night, Nemeth had a career-high performance as she had a career-high 30 kills and 11 digs for her second consecutive double-double and third of the season. The native of Pecel, Hungary native became the third player in CCU history to achieve the 30-kill mark. Leah Hardeman accomplished the mark twice in her career. Hardeman first achieved the feat on Sept. 23, 2017, versus Arkansas State (32) and then later in the same season on Oct. 23, 2017, versus Appalachian State (30).

Appalachian State

Emma Longley and Sam Bickley each posted double-doubles as Appalachian State won in four sets (27-25, 26-24, 17-25, 25-15) to remain perfect in Sun Belt play with a victory at Arkansas State on Friday night.

Longley finished with a match-high 20 kills while adding 11 digs and Bickley finished the contest with 49 assists and a career-high 14 digs.

On Saturday, the Mountaineers suffered their first Sun Belt loss of the season at the hands of Little Rock by the score of 3-1 (25-21, 9-25, 25-22, 25-23).
