Lafayette, La. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team fell in Lafayette, La. to Louisiana 3-1 in a match that was shortened due to lightning on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Chanticleers fall to 4-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in Sun Belt action while the Ragin' Cajuns improved to 6-4-3 on the season and 2-1-1 in conference play.
 
Louisiana opened the scoring, getting the first goal of the match when the Coastal defense was whistled for a foul inside the penalty box. The Ragin' Cajuns' Gwen Mummert found the back of the net on the penalty kick in the 11th minute for the early 1-0 lead. In the 19th minute, Kaylie Powell found Skyla Sykes to increase Louisiana's lead to 2-0, where it would remain for the first half of action.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns opened the second period with possession and in the 56th minute increased the lead to 3-0 on a Una Einarsdottir goal off the assist from Ashley Newland.
 
The Chanticleers would strike in the second half when 
Mackenzie Cherry found 
Hannah Miller down the middle for the lone CCU tally. The goal by Miller is the senior's fourth goal of the season.
 
The final four minutes were called due to continued lightning in the area and travel concerns for the Chanticleers
 
Coastal was outshot 14-8 in the match. Miller led the offensive attack with four shots while 
Mackenzie Gibbs, 
Megan Brouse, 
Sunny Sigurvinsdottir, and 
Baylee Price had one chance each.
 
Coastal Carolina will return to action on Friday, Oct. 11, as they will host Georgia State in Conway, S.C. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
