TERRE HAUTE, IND. - On Saturday, Coastal Carolina brothers Nadeel Wildschutt and Adriaan Wildschutt closed out the 2019 cross country season at the 2019 NCAA Cross Country Country Championship 10k at Indiana State University.
Nadeel looked to recapture the NCAA-All American honors that he won two seasons ago as a freshman when he finished 28th overall.
Wildschutt was near the top of the pack at the start of the race. Through the first three kilometers, Nadeel had a split time of 8:55.30, good for sixth-place. At the next split of five kilometers, the junior dropped 10 spots to 16th-place (15:19.70). Over the next 3000 meters, his pace faded but remained in all-american contention. Nadeel ran through the eight-kilometer split marking a time of 24:58.30, good for 35th-place overall. To close out the final two kilometers, the 2019 Sun Belt Cross Country Runner of the Year dropped 18 spots and finished the day in 53rd-place with a time of 31:31.60
Adriaan was making his first appearance at the NCAA Cross Country Championship and looked to continue his strong second season as a cross country runner.
The 2019 NCAA All-Southeast Region selection finished 198th out of the 252-runner field. The eldest brother ran 9:04.50 through the first three kilometers of the race as it placed him 82nd overall. Over the next three split times, he dropped to 179th. Eventually, the junior finished in 198th-place with a time of 33:00.50.
Peter Seufer of Virginia Tech was the race leader through the first three splits, but Edwin Kurgat of Iowa State overtook the Hokie runner in the last two kilometers to win the 10k race with a time of 30:32.70.
